Easy but a bit scary
Got to admit the thought of starting the update was a bit scary, thinking it might have to go into the main dealer to re-install the software if I destroyed my head unit but no, all went well and exactly as I was told by David.
I have read that once you install the new map update stick to start the install you can use the car and when you have completed your journey you can park up and switch off the car and the update just goes into a pause mode. The next time you use the car and switch on the update just resumes where it left off, not sure I trusted that idea and would be a waste of time if that didn't work and you had to start again with the update or worse still, it screwed up your head unit.
When the map update stick arrived the instruction with it clearly stated that the update should be completed in one go with no stopping.
I chose this method as the safest option and just inserted the stick and went for a three hour drive, most of it just driving around York by-pass but it worked as described, you then have to switch off and lock the car for 15 minutes before unlocking and testing your update.
I locked the car, had my tea and went to bed leaving it for the following morning, all was well and just as described.

Good Service from the Technical Team
We had an issue with an error message that kept coming up before installation. They were patient and helpful. We discovered this error was related to the car looking for music files on the USB stick and not finding any so displayed an error. So ignoring this and progressing to installation worked. It has been running now for over a month with no complaints.
